The QEII Centre’s versatility wowed the judging panel, who commended its ability to deliver bespoke event solutions to each and every client. The accolade comes at an important time for the venue, which is successfully repositioning under the direction of chief executive Mark Taylor.
Speaking at the unveiling of the second phase of refurbishment last month, Taylor said that the venue was “sexier” and “more confident” than ever. Guests are now welcomed with a bright and spacious foyer, featuring raised ceilings, sleek airport style check-in desks, multiple ultra-wide 29 inch screens, a concierge desk, a video wall made up of nine ultra-slim bezel 55-inch screens and the new Sanctuary executive lounge.
Connectivity has been addressed with the installation of an IPTV network and a free-to-access 1Gbps wifi service.
Elsewhere, a brand new staircase has been built to improve the connectivity between the venue’s 700-seat capacity Churchill Auditorium and the Pickwick Suite, while the replacement of all carpeting and conferencing furniture has instilled a contemporary and elegant style throughout.
Receiving the award, Taylor said: “I’m delighted our new QEII Centre was recognised on Friday for the service, multiple facilities and creativity we provide. This is a terrific achievement and testimony to our team’s commitment and ambition.
“My focus will continue to be on the commercial development of the venue, providing considerable economic return and bringing international business firmly into London over the next few years, so it’s great to be recognised as the best large venue in the UK, which coincides with the incredible pattern of growth for the business. Our year-end target has just this week been met, some four months ahead of schedule.
Widely regarded as a beacon of British excellence, the QEII Centre seeks to deliver unbeatable service and choice for events, meetings and conference organisers across the World.
