Awards’ 10th anniversary emphasises ‘service quality’ in the industryAbu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) was awarded Platinum for ‘Best Tourism Authority’ at the 2014 MENA Awards, ‘Powered by Service Quality’. Held at the Conrad Dubai hotel last night, the regional awards were also celebrating their 10th anniversary.
H.E. Mohamed Al Khamis, Managing Director of the UAE National Council of Tourism & Antiquities, presented the award to TCA Abu Dhabi’s Director of Promotions and Overseas Offices, Mubarak Al Nuaimi.
TCA’s Mubarak Al Nuaimi explained, “We’re thrilled to receive this recognition of the quality of services we provide to our varied stakeholder base and visitors in marketing our destination, conserving and promoting our heritage and culture and leveraging them in developing a world-class, sustainable destination of distinction.”
Organisers say key determining factors in TCA Abu Dhabi achieving the award were: beating its 2013 hotel guest targets by 18 per cent; creating the Abu Dhabi Convention Bureau to support the growth of conventions and exhibitions within the emirate; expansion of its successful trade engagement programme ‘Access Abu Dhabi’ with the national carrier Etihad Airways to five new markets; having its annual fine food festival ‘Gourmet Abu Dhabi’ billed as one of the world’s best gourmet events by the Sydney Morning Herald metro-newspaper; and its ground-breaking digital communications initiatives, introducing a new consumer iPhone app and a stakeholder focused corporate website, and launching its consumer website in Brazilian Portuguese.
The annual MENA (Middle East and North Africa) Travel Awards, which coincide with the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) in Dubai, celebrate the skills, creativity, ingenuity and accomplishments of the region’s growing travel industry, while honouring successful entrants in each of the industry categories and those considered the best in their specific sectors.
Out of the UAE’s seven tourism authorities, the winners were chosen based on the impact of their 2013 achievements, their future tourism sector projects and the increase in the number of tourists over the last year.
The awards are voted for by travellers, guests, customers and travel-trade professionals, with results audited by pwc (PriceWaterhouseCoopers).
