Air Canada extends Heathrow to St. Johns service for summer 2012Air Canada has announced it is to extend seasonal non-stop service between London Heathrow and St. John’s, Newfoundland this summer, operating flights daily from 18 May 2012 until 27 October 2012, four weeks longer than originally scheduled.
“We are pleased to extend the only direct daily service to St. John’s from the UK,” said Robert Atkinson, General Manager – Sales UK, Ireland and Northern Europe. “St. John’s is situated on the spectacular Atlantic coastline and not only has great historical significance, but an emerging economic presence, making it increasingly popular for leisure and business customers alike.”
St. John’s is the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador with a growing population of nearly 200,000 and has seen high levels of commercial development over the past 10 years, resulting from an oil-driven economic boom. Known as ‘North America’s oldest city’, St. John’s was founded in 1497 with the first permanent settlement in 1620, and is located on the Atlantic coast of the island of Newfoundland, Canada’s easternmost province.
Air Canada’s Heathrow-St. John’s flight, AC823, departs London Heathrow daily at 1:00 p.m. and arrives at St. John’s at 3:10 p.m. local time the same day and is conveniently timed for connections to Deer Lake and Halifax. The return flight, AC822, departs St. John’s daily at 10:05 p.m. and arrives at London Heathrow at 6:35 a.m. the next day (all times local).* The service is operated by Airbus A319 aircraft in a two-cabin configuration featuring 120 seats – 14 in Executive Class and 106 in Economy Class.
Air Canada is the only carrier to offer non-stop service to St. John’s over the summer and operates a one-stop service between London Heathrow and St. John’s via Halifax during the winter period.
Air Canada offers more daily flights from the UK to Canada than any other airline, with 84 non-stop flights per week to eight major Canadian cities scheduled this summer, including up to five flights per day to Toronto and daily services to St. John’s, Vancouver, Halifax, Montréal, Calgary, Ottawa, and Edmonton.
