Strong dollar, weak euro impact on British travel pattern

European destinations are more attractive to the UK the exchange rate is in the pound sterling’s favour and they offer value for money.
The US dollar, however, is strong, Britain continues to regard the USA as an attractive destination and numbers of visitors going there are holding up, but the spend per visitor from the UK is down.

These are findings from The American Express Currency Index, summarised by Terry Perrin, Director at American Express Global Foreign Exchange Services.

‘This trend was very obvious in 2011’, he comments, ‘and we see it continuing through 2012 if the pound continues to strengthen against the euro and decrease against the US dollar’.
